Assessment of business needs and IT services

A shared view of how well the IT is serving the business is a fundamental starting point for any correction or (re)alignment and yet an agreed position rarely exists. The new service-based IT management framework uses a common language for assessment based on the relationship between business and IT.
Assessment can either be a shared activity undertaken jointly by the business and IT or alternatively the business, if it so desires, can make its own assessments with confidence. These assessments can be communicated unambiguously to the IT service provider. This common language more comprehensively describes in real terms a wider range of opportunities for business and service improvement.
The process embraces current IT delivery methods and so any exisiting investment in these is not wasted but the adoption of the new approach will address current inadequacies and provide additional benefits that will become essesntial management tools in the context of IT futures, i.e. post consumerisation, commoditisation, and the further convergence of business and IT leading to self-adaptive and self-managing systems.
